Volo Performance Fuel Saving Chip Second Chance
In our July
2009 newsletter I reported on the test results on tests of the Volo Performance Fuel Saving FS-1 electronic
device. The results were 28 miles
per gallon without the device and 27.4 mile per gallon with the device. After publishing the newsletter I received
an email from a prospective customer who claimed that the proper
procedure for using the Volo was to run it for
two tanks full of fuel to give it a chance to adjust the ECU.
I was
reluctant to bother with the Volo but agreed to
do another test. This time I
tracked the mileage as before as I left the Volo
on for three tanks full of fuel.
The results were worse than before. The mileage tests during these tanks
full gradually got worse and worse.
First we saw 27.4 mpg, then 27 mpg, then 26.4, then 26 mpg. All tests were 40-80 mile round
trips. At first I thought that the
cooling weather may have contributed to the declining mileage.
After
testing for the agreed upon number of tanks full of fuel, plus some, I
finally gave up on the Volo and repeated the
same test with the Volo shut off, to get a
repeat baseline figure for accurate comparison. The mileage without the Volo was 27.8 mile per gallon. This confirms that the Volo, at least on my vehicle, only decreased
mileage. So really it should be
named the Volo poor-formance
fuel wasting chip.
If you
have any other devices you’d like be to embarrass with true testing, send
them to me and I’ll be glad to publish the results. If something works, I’d likely include
it in the complete Hydrogen Boost system, provided it is not too
expensive.
